Does Safehealth provide covered for systems operated by third parties?
Please talk to your underwriter for additional context about this question.
The SafeHealth policy was designed to provide coverage for the insured’s technology and telecommunications providers. The coverage is in the definition of “your computer system”.
Do I need to receive a denial of coverage from my HPL provider before SafeHealth can respond?
Please talk to your underwriter for additional context about this question.
It isn’t necessary to first receive a declination from the HPL insurer for a claim that clearly isn’t covered in order to trigger coverage under SafeHealth. We do see this concern raised from time to time because many HPL policies have coverage for HIPAA and some have small cyber sidecar endorsements. In addition, SafeHealth includes medical billing/regulatory liability, bodily injury, and even some products liability coverage, so there are significant areas of crossover between MPL/HPL and cyber risk policies.
In practice, healthcare provides typically experience data breaches, cyber theft (fraudulent funds transfers), or ransomware events and such events usually trigger multiple coverage modules under SafeHealth and in some cases those claims may also trigger some liability and/or cyber endorsement coverages under the LPL. This is where SafeHealth where designed to outperform standard policies. Under SafeHealth we can be primary, excess, or both depending on the facts of the claim. Also, depending on our position (primary or excess), we can recognize erosion of our deductible or infill another carriers deductible. It puts the insured in the best position to recover the maximum amount for a single claim without paying multiple deductibles.
To be clear, when significant cyber events happen that trigger SafeHealth and may also impact the HPL/MPL, we don’t wait around for a resolution. It’s in everyone’s best interest for us to become involved right way to mitigate and resolve the claim. Cyber claims are somewhat unique because they will become much larger if they are not aggressively mitigated immediately.
What is a Difference in Conditions Wrap Policy and how does it work?
A difference-in-conditions policy is designed to fill in specific gaps left by standard insurance policies. It provides additional limits, and was typically sought after by large organizations. As a standalone policy, SafeHealth is highly customized to your firm’s cyber risks without conflicting with your HPL/MPL policy.
For example: Our difference-in-conditions policy, SafeHealth, broadens your firm’s coverage in 3 specific ways:
- Primary cyber coverage wherever the HPL gaps exist
- Primary cyber coverage “side-by-side” with your HPL if their policy only provides partial coverage
- Provide excess coverage above any cyber risk the HPL may cover

Resources for Answering the Information Security Questions.
In order to effectively underwrite the risk to the book, we ask 10 information security questions across all our programs. Below we have one page flyers on several of the information questions to help explain what they are and why they are important.
MultiFactor | 2 Factor Authentication
MultiFactor (MFA) or 2 Factor Authentication is so very important that many Cyber Insurance Companies will not underwrite a risk that does not use it. The following flyer can help explain what MFA is and why it is important.
Backups | Segregated Backups
Consistent backups can get your business back to work quickly. And segregating them so they don’t get infected if a network or computer gets attacked is key. This flyer helps explain backups and some resources applicants can use.
How to Protect your Email
Email is a common attack vector for bad actors. Whether a phishing attack to steal information or a link that downloads a virus, securing your email can protect your business and your customers. This flyer explains some ways to protect your email.
Self Assessment Tool
We have put in place a self assessment tool to help applicants assess whether they have the information security controls in place that correspond with the questions on the application. Policy holders can click on the Logo below to use the self assessment too.
